Trás os Montes Wine Region, is located in the north of the Douro, more precisely behind the mountains of Marão and Alvão, being divided between three sub-regions: Chaves, Valpaços and Planalto Mirandês. Speaking of a very mountainous area in the soils, granite predominates, its climate is very dry and hot. Very hot summers and harsh winters, being a region of extremes in terms of climate. The predominant red grape varieties are Trincadeira, Bastardo, Marufo, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. As characteristics of Red wines, the fact that they are fruity and slightly astringent stands out.
