Fortified wine is a wine to which a distilled drink (Cognac, Armagnac or brandy) has been added in order to stop its fermentation. Several types of fortified wine have been developed throughout history, including Port Wine, sherry, Madeira Wine, Marsala Wine, Commandaria, Moscatel de Setúbal, Mistelle, Vins doux naturels, and vermouth.
